Planning Your Move
Whether you're heading across the state or across the country, getting your stuff to your internship housing doesn't have to be stressful. Here's a step-by-step guide to shipping your belongings efficiently and affordably.
What to Bring (and What to Leave)
Dorm and intern housing is typically furnished with a bed, desk, and basic furniture. Focus on packing:
- Essentials: Bedding (check twin XL vs. full size), towels, toiletries, medications
- Tech: Laptop, chargers, power strip, headphones
- Clothing: Professional attire for work, casual for weekends, weather-appropriate layers
- Kitchen basics: If your unit has a kitchen — a few plates, utensils, a pot, and a pan go a long way
- Leave behind: Full furniture, large appliances, anything you won't need for 2-3 months
Packing Tips
- Use vacuum-sealed bags for bedding and clothing to save space.
- Ship boxes to arrive 1-2 days after your move-in date (not before — there may be no one to receive them).
- Label every box clearly with your name, unit number, and phone number.
- Take a photo of the contents of each box before sealing.
